WHAT IS A SHRUB?

A shrub is a syrup made of vinegar, sugar, fruit and herbs. Shrubs were incredibly popular in 17th century England, made their way over to colonial America, thrived during the Prohibition and serve as wonderful craft mixers for alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages today!

HOW DO I USE MY SHRUB?

Blend 0.5 -2 ounces of shrub with 1.5 oz. of your desired liquor (or hold the liquor for a non-alcoholic shrub beverage). Top off with sparkling water. Add additional cocktail ingredients (bitters, simple syrup, muddled fruit, etc.), as desired. Here is our suggested shrub ratio:

  • For 8 oz. glass: 1 oz. of shrub topped with sparkling water + liquor 

  • For 16 oz. glass: 2 oz. of shrub topped with sparkling water + liquor

These are simply our suggestions, although there isn’t an incorrect way to use shrubs. Simply adjust to your liking. For a more forward taste, utilize more shrub and less sparkling water. For a more subtle experience, utilize less shrub and more sparkling water. Our shrubs pair well with ANY liquor, and you’ll always enjoy your shrub beverage best when it’s created using your preferred spirit and other ingredients.

HOW LONG DO SHRUBS LAST?

Our shrubs have a shelf life of about a year, so they won’t expire before you get a chance to enjoy them. Each 8 oz. bottle will make up to 16 drinks and each 16 oz. bottle will make up to 32 drinks, depending upon your preferred usage amount.

DO SHRUBS NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?

Shrubs are best kept refrigerated after opening. Since shrubs are crafted with vinegar, they are incredibly shelf stable - and so if you have to travel with your shrub or forget to pop it back in the refrigerator, don’t stress! Shrubs can sit out of refrigeration for up to a few weeks. This means they can be shipped and shared with a family member or friend far away! They make wonderful gifts for the same reason.

SHRUB + SPARKLING WATER

It’s exactly as the title says - shrub topped off with sparkling water. Here’s the breakdown: Fill glass with ice. Add 1 ounce of shrub for rock-style glassware and 2 ounces for pint-sized glassware. Top off and blend with sparkling water.

Don’t have sparkling water or simply prefer no carbonation? That’s no problem at all. Follow the same recipe with uncarbonated water instead.

SHRUB MIMOSA

The perfect Sunday concoction… and any other day of the week, if we’re being honest. Add sparkling water to this recipe to create a Pineapple Sage spritzer!

  • Fill your glass partway with chilled Champagne or sparkling wine

  • Top off with Pineapple Sage shrub

  • Garnish with a fresh sage leaf

PINEAPPLE SAGE SHRUB + RUM

  • Muddle fresh strawberries in glass

  • Fill glass with ice

  • Add 1.5 oz. of rum

  • Add 0.5 oz. of lime juice

  • Add 2 oz. of Pineapple Sage shrub

  • Top off with club soda

  • Stir to blend incredients

  • Garnish with fresh sage leaf
